Scotland may not be the first place you think of if you’re considering a beach holiday. But you might be surprised to learn that the West Coast in particular is home to some truly stunning stretches of white sandy beach that wouldn’t look out of place on a tropical island paradise.
The lochs, lakes, islands and inlets in and around Argyll, Bute and the Highlands are home to a magical array of beaches which boast white sand and magical turquoise blue waters – and most are quiet year round.

Ettrick Bay is a wide, sandy beach which runs for approximately a mile. Monitored by SEPA, the bay is popular with both visitors and locals who enjoy paddling in the beautiful, clear waters. Not too far from Portavadie is Ostel Bay, which is home to a beautiful crescent-shaped sweep of sand. Climb over the dunes and the beach stretches out ahead of you with Arran on the horizon. On a sunny day it’s a fabulous place to spend the day paddling, sun-bathing and swimming.See more
