For the keen angler, Scotland really is a dream.

For those who love to fish or are keen to take up angling as a new hobby, there is nowhere better to experience this than at Rosneath Castle Park. With the park being set right on the banks of Gareloch, you are guaranteed to experience a trip filled with fun and relaxation.

Officially you don’t need a fishing permit here at Rosneath, however you aren’t allowed to keep any Trout that has been fished, they must be put back. A fishing license is not a legal requirement for fishing with a rod and line in Scotland, except from in the Border Esk region.

At Rosneath we want to be sure you have the best experience possible, whether you’ve fished before or it’s your first time. So here are our top tips for a successful fishing trip:

Be prepared for the weather – Scottish weather can be unpredictable. Dress in layers, bring waterproof clothing, and be prepared for rain and wind, but don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses for brighter days. This will ensure you can still have a wonderful time come rain or shine!

Equipment – Be sure you have the appropriate fishing gear, bait, and lures for the species you’re aiming to spot to avoid any possible disappointment. Research online or local bait shops are full of useful tips information to help you with this topic.

Look after nature – Leave no trace and practice catch-and-release where possible to help keep Scotland’s beautiful fishing environments as amazing as possible for future generations to continue to enjoy and for you to further enjoy!

Most importantly enjoy the experience – Remember to take in the breath-taking scenery and the overall experience. Scotland’s landscapes are stunning, and fishing is just as much about the journey as it is the catch itself.

So what are you waiting for? Pack up your gear, head to Rosneath Castle Park, and enjoy the thrill of reeling in your next big catch while embracing every, unimaginable, surrounding view.
